EVALUATION OF 1ST ARTEFACT

Name: Colin Bradley
Occupation: Director of Community Interest Company
Age: 30

The Interviewee is a 30 year old male that currently works educated disadvantaged young people in the community for a charity company. He stated that his average use of the Internet was 2-3hours a day, mainly to gather information regarding anything he is doing. He was asked what online community's and social networks he belonged, and besides the popular choices such as facebook and myspace, he participates in online forums that aim to give technical support to users regarding music and digital technology. It was expressed that the support gained from these forums was unlikely to be matched by “real-world” contact in the same area. The interviewee believes that the Internet allows him to gather or collate information a lot quicker than using traditional methods.
However this was the extent to his use. He went on to explain how he does not feel comfortable in trying to create a persona online and activley meet and engage new people. He beieves that the Internet is a tool that aids his social life by giving information and nothing more. He also describe keeping relationships through online social networking. On facebook, he believes, he has friends that he previoously knew and would not be able to communicate with if not for Facebook, but on the other hand also admitted that if Facebook were not there he would probably not miss the communication between those friends.
He also declared that he has quite an active social life in his community. Playing football, running a studio and of course the bulk of teaching children and young people from the community. It was because of this he felt that he did not need to use the Internet for further communication or social activity. He felt that it was “strange” to be so involved with relationships through the Internet and that real life interaction is more important.

REVIEW AFTERMATH

On Monday I had my university review held by my tutors to discuss proposed work and give feedback on work completed.
I was pleasantly surprised by the encouragment given by my tutors and understand that I have perhaps underestimated the value of the "work" that I do outside of university. I was also told to update my blog more regulary so hence this is what Im doing.

I would like to add to the blog information about the event promotion work I do and also my musical interests.
I am currently a recording M.C, writing and recording Hip Hop tracks in alliance with Dealmaker Records and Stone Soup Records. This has been great experience and also a dorrway into another avenue of my workng life. As my profile as an artist grows I have been getting increasingly more interest from artsist and producers outside of Nottingham. This is a great step up in te ladder and more gigs have started to come. We have a 5 track demo C.D release in feb/march to help promote thelive show and push it further across the UK.
As for promoting, it is something that I have been active in for four years now. I started of as a street flyerer fort Detonate Nottingham and quickly moved up the ranks to become more involved in all aspects of their street promotion - organising my own promo team and covering the Nottingham are for street promo'. From this I learned enough to take my own direction and start to promote events for myself. Along with fellow students we set up AMBUSH. This has now been running for just over two years and has moved across venues in Nottingham. The success and relative quick gowth of the night meant it soon was too big for a small operation and has now been made a monthly 300-400 people event. However this has meant too much work, especially with a final year degree to complete so AMBUSH is temporarily on hold. This doesnt mean I have stopped though. In July 07 I set up a sister night to Ambush called HOME-BAKED. This smaller nighter has more enphasis on local musicians bringing in a smaller niche crowd but still just as much fun as any other night ive been to. I'll continue to update the blog on both Promotng and M.Cing.

PRP

The first installment for our Personal Research project was the research Document.
My research area was into the effect of Internet and Virtual communites on real life communites.
It has been a very interesting topic to research into, and I have no shortage of material to study.
To be honest the intitial stages of the prject I was not at all enthusiastic about carrying out the research, but the more I read and discovered the more intersesting the subject became.
As a sceptic of internet technologies and virtual living I was surprised to find so much material that followed my negative view on the "techno revolution", but also must admit some arguements for the technology were very strong.

The document itself, I was very pleased with. Still waiting to hear feedback but I hope it is good because I did get alot of the project's first stage. This however does lead to the second stage, and again im not so excited about the prospect.

My artefacts will be video interviews to explore the range of internet use connected to social interaction within the community by people of different ages. I hope to show that the older generations, who are less likely to use the internet heavily, will have more community interaction than the younger generation - who use the internet heavily.

2008. TIME TO CATCH UP...AGAIN!
Its been another jam packed two months for me, in and out of university. I have completed two pieces of coursework for my degree, a research project (incl essay) and a small 30 second advert for a simulated client brief, both will be posted above.

Outside of uni I have taken a small trip to Berlin to catch up on some art and culture, been working VERY hard at Stone Soup with some great rewards - I'm really starting to develop a good relationship with this years young people and we've done some really cool projects with them, T-shirt design and making was my favourite. My event organising has been slowed down a bit - purely due to the sheer amount of work flying around in my head and running an event does take alot of time dedication and stress! However the new night "Home-Baked" has been recieved well and has just moved venue to my local drinking tavern the Golden Fleece.
